Background checks are necessary

Many Catholic “pro-life” gun enthusiasts are against any kind of gun regulations, stating that guns protect the innocent.

What about the gun owner being mentally deranged, a felon, drug addicted, angry and belligerent or someone mentally or physically unable to handle a firearm? Universal background checks in every state should be a must before we have another massacre such as Newtown, Conn. There are more than 300 million guns in our nation. With such a law, it would be necessary for every gun owner, and every potential gun-buyer or –seller, to observe a background check.

Forty percent of gun owners have purchased guns without any background check. These buyers can sell or give these weapons to any drug dealer or felon.
