Web safety tips

The Federal Trade Commission offers the following safety tips for young people who use social networking sites on the Internet:

•Don’t post your full name, social security number, address, phone number or bank or credit card account numbers.

•Make sure your screen name doesn’t reveal too much information, such as where you go to school.

•Post only information that you are comfortable with others seeing and knowing about you.

•Be careful about posting photos, knowing they can be altered or shared with other people.

•Recognize that some people lie about their age or identity. Be wary of meeting a new online friend in person. Talk to adults before doing so.
