St. Timothy youths support Haiti

St. Timothy in Walkersville got to test out the acoustics in Lystra Hall of their new parish center Nov. 16 during an open mic night to benefit an upcoming teen service trip to their sister parish, St. Jérôme, in Haiti.

Sponsored by “The Edge” Youth Ministry, the event included a lively two-hour program featuring a variety of performances by the students and the first public appearance of the all-adult Christian Rock band, Rock of Ages, comprised of local church members.

During the upcoming service trip, a group of four teenagers and four adults will participate in the daily workings of the parish center and of one of the schools, which receives the daily meal provided by the “sister parish” program at St. Timothy.

The students have a full agenda which will involve learning alongside their Haitian peers, assisting teachers in preschool and primary school classes and being instructors themselves.

The group will also do a Moringa “miracle” tree planting at three different sites, and stake out a garden to be used as a source of vegetables for their feeding program in the future.
