“Is marriage eroding?” (CR, April 16) was disturbing. People need to wake up. Marriage as a sacrament and worthy vocation has been eroding for so long that its erosion is not a question, it is a fact.
While there is time for church leaders to restore marriage to its proper place in the church, I seriously doubt that political leaders will ever be able to restore it as the bedrock of American society.
The question is: will our church leaders give marriage the attention it needs to be what it should be in the church? When I start hearing prayers for authentic marriage vocations from the pulpit each week, I’ll start believing they are.
