Poverty amid plenty focus of Arundel meeting

Persistent pockets of poverty amid the wealth of Anne Arundel County will be the focus of a 7 p.m. town hall meeting Oct. 27 at St. Bernadette, Severn.

Lester M. Salamon, founding director of the Johns Hopkins Institute for Policy Studies, will present findings of his report “Poverty Amidst Plenty: The Two Faces of Anne Arundel County.”

In an otherwise affluent county, many struggle to find affordable housing, health care, jobs and public transportation.

The meeting is sponsored by Beyond the Boundaries and the Community Foundation of Anne Arundel County. Beyond the Boundaries, part of the Archdiocese of Baltimore, strives to address the causes of economic, ethnic, racial and social inequality. The Community Foundation seeks to improve the quality of life for people in Anne Arundel.
