Refer to Bible passage before abolishing weapons of war

In advising the abolishment of weapons of war (CR, July 31), I guess retired Auxiliary Bishop Thomas J Gumbleton of Detroit considers Jesus wrong for telling his apostles at the last supper that from now on “a man without a sword must sell his cloak and buy one” (Luke 22:36).

While this does not answer the question “What would Jesus do?” in the event of a war with Iran, it does seem to answer the question “What would Jesus have me do?”
