Don’t blame doll for lax parenting

A hollow plastic toy (Barbie) was blamed for the improper apparel of today’s young ladies (CR, Feb. 12). Friend or Foe? How can an empty plastic toy be either? Mount St. Mary’s University in Emmitsburg has planned an academic discussion on a lifeless toy. What is to be the educational outcome?

The point is sadly missed here. Parents, not a piece of plastic, are solely responsible for the dress code of their daughters, in the classroom and on the streets. They should assume that responsibility when making the purchases. The Catholic Review should get with the serious issues of today, instead of wasting an entire page on a 50-year-old toy.
