Cristo Rey Jesuit principal elected to network council

Jesuit Father John W. Swope, president of Cristo Rey Jesuit High School in Baltimore, was elected by his peers to serve on the Presidents’ Council of the Cristo Rey Network.

Father Swope’s term will begin immediately and expire June 2011.

The five-member Presidents’ Council meets on an as-needed basis to provide strategic counsel to the network staff, based in offices at DePaul University in Chicago.

The Council was formed last year in response to the rapid expansion of the Cristo Rey Network and the Network’s desire to respond to the needs of its members. Currently 22 schools, located throughout the nation, are members of the Network.

Two additional schools are slated to begin as members this fall.

“Under Father Swope’s leadership, Cristo Rey Jesuit High School has shown very impressive results,” said Rob Birdsell, president of the Cristo Rey Network. “I am delighted that the Cristo Rey Network presidents will benefit from his energy and vision.”
