Christian Brother Thomas Zoppo, president of Calvert Hall College High School in Towson for four years, announced his resignation June 7.
“After prayerful discernment … I have decided not to return to Calvert Hall after the conclusion of the academic year for personal and professional reasons,” Brother Zoppo wrote in a letter to the Calvert Hall community. “I am looking forward to an extended retreat and more time to actively attend to family matters.”
He continued, “Calvert Hall is indeed an extraordinary institution with a remarkable tradition. I am very proud of the initiatives undertaken during my tenure which have benefited the entire Calvert Hall community. It has been gratifying to witness the school’s ongoing evolution.”
The school’s board of trustees and the District of Eastern North America Provincial Leadership (the Christian Brothers provincial) has started exploring short-term and long-term leadership succession planning, Brother Zoppo wrote in the letter. A Massachusetts native, Brother Thomas previously served as a teacher, administrator and in other positions at Catholic high schools and colleges in California and New York before coming to Calvert Hall in 2009. He earned a bachelor’s in business administration from Villanova University in Philadelphia and a master’s in school administration from Manhattan College. He pursued graduate studies in counseling at Manhattan, spirituality at Notre Dame University and school leadership at Boston College.
