Stella Maris employees win awards

This year Stella Maris’ highest form of praise, the Mercy Spirit Award, went to Stephanie Gramling and Phyllistine Davis. The award is given to two employees who live the values of the Sisters of Mercy. Nominees must demonstrate four of the seven core values of the Mercy Health Services, including respect, hospitality, mercy/justice, excellence, empowerment, stewardship and prayer.

“Both Stephanie and Phyllistine embody the essence of what this award represents,” said Sister M. Karen McNally, R.S.M., Stella Maris chief administrative officer.

Ms. Grambling was nominated for her work as the nurse manager for one of Stella Maris’ dementia units where 52 elderly patients reside. She makes patients, employees and families feel welcome and comfortable at all times. Ms. Grambling has been with Stella Maris for two years.

“Stephanie is a woman of faith who creates an environment where each individual’s uniqueness is valued,” said Sister Louis Mary Battle, chairperson of the mission and values committee. “She goes to great lengths to be honest and fair in all her dealings, earning the trust and respect of her staff.”

Ms. Davis, a heavy duty technician, cleans patients’ rooms with grace and respect. She is mindful of the wishes of patients and families and performs her duties well. She has been a loyal employee for 30 years.

“Phyllistine is the type of person who takes great pride and ownership in her responsibilities at Stella Maris,” said Craig Sattler, environmental services director. “We are fortunate to have an employee like her.”
