St. John sets longer hours

St. John School, Westminster, has decided to lengthen its school day by 30 minutes starting in the 2007-08 school year to devote more time to teach the four Rs: reading, writing, arithmetic and religion. A Spanish language curriculum is being introduced as well.

“In order to provide greater justice to all curriculum areas, lengthening the school day was critical,” said principal Pat Brink. Although the new times have not been yet determined, Mrs. Brink said, “parents seem to be enthusiastic as we move forward in providing an even stronger academic and religious formation program for the future.”
