St. Gregory youth proclaim “Yes We Can”

The burgeoning youth group at St. Gregory the Great in Baltimore was host July 12 to a 2009 Youth Day, with the theme “Generation Changers: Yes We Can.”

Monsignor Damien G. Nalepa, pastor, celebrated Mass. Deacon B. Curtis Turner, the principal of St. Frances Academy, was the guest speaker, touching on faith, knowledge and fortitude, according to Karen Brown Berkley, St. Gregory youth minister.

Sharon Williams of St. Gregory was among those recognized for their support of youth. Other guests included the youth and young adults from St. Ambrose and St. Francis Xavier in Baltimore.

The program was the culmination of a year’s worth of youth outreach at St. Gregory the Great, which held a combined retreat with St. Ambrose in June at the Monsignor O’Dwyer Retreat House in Sparks.

Other activities sponsored by the St. Gregory the Great youth group included a Halloween party for area children, a blanket drive and food giveaway to the homeless and a trip to King’s Dominion.
