Speaker Pelosi should protect life, liberty of unborn

“Pope meets with Speaker Pelosi” (CR, Feb. 26) included the speaker’s statements in a “Meet the Press” interview, that “We don’t know when life begins” and “I don’t think anybody can tell you when life begins, human life begins.” They are a reminder of how much prayer is needed this Lenten season. If we do not know when life begins then we have never stepped out of the prehistoric ages.

Speaker Nancy Pelosi is third in line in the executive progression of our government. She is recognized as an esteemed public servant. If her type of thinking on life issues is what our government leaders and society have come to accept, then we are in deep trouble.

We should pray for Speaker Pelosi and her Catholic colleagues, Vice President Joe Biden, Maryland Senators Barbara Mikulski and Ben Cardin, as well as President Barack Obama and Maryland Governor Martin O’Malley. Pray that our Lord will touch their hearts enough to let them know that life begins at the instant of conception and that pre-born children are the most neglected minority of our race. The government should protect their life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
