Sister Rose Mary Ballasty taught at three Baltimore schools

 

A funeral Mass for School Sister of Notre Dame Rose Mary Ballasty was offered April 3 at the Chapel at Villa Notre Dame in Wilton, Conn. Sister Rose Mary died March 30. She was 89 and had been a sister for 66 years.

 

A native of Garden City in Long Island, N.Y., Sister Rose Mary entered the School Sisters of Notre Dame in Baltimore in 1942. She was given the religious name Marie Elizabeth and professed first vows in 1945.

 

She was a teacher at Notre Dame Preparatory School in Towson from 1945 to 1946; St. Thomas Aquinas School in Hampden from 1946 to 1949 and the Institute of Notre Dame in Baltimore from 1948 to 1949. Her career in education continued until 1994. 

 

Sister Rose Mary earned a bachelor’s degree in education in 1963 and a master’s in education and psychology in 1970, both from Fordham University in New York.
