Sister Melba Beine, O.P., dies

A funeral Mass for Adrian Dominican Sister Melba Beine will be offered March 11 in Adrian, Mich. Sister Melba died Feb. 27. She was 69 and in the 40th year of her religious profession.

Born in Kansas, Sister Melba earned a bachelor’s degree in microbiology from the University of Kansas, a master’s degree in microbiology from Michigan State University and a doctorate in medicine from the University of Maryland, Baltimore.

In the Archdiocese of Baltimore, Sister Melba served as a resident physician at Mercy Medical Center from 1986 to 1989 and as a physician in Baltimore from 1989 to 1995. She also served in Michigan and Virginia.
