Sister Judith O’Neill, O.S.F., area educator, dies at 84

A funeral Mass for Sister Judith O’Neill of the Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia was to be offered July 7 in Assisi House in Aston, Pa. Sister Judith, a professed Sister of St. Francis for 63 years, died June 29. She was 84.

Sister Judith entered the Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia in 1949 and professed her first vows in 1952. She ministered primarily in education, at elementary, secondary and college levels. 

In the Archdiocese of Baltimore, Sister Judith taught at Our Lady of Mount Carmel School in Essex from 1951-52, St. Joseph School in Fullerton from 1952-60, St. Peter Claver School in Baltimore from 1964-68, St. Lawrence School in Baltimore from 1977-78, Shrine of the Little Flower School from 1978-82 and The Catholic High School of Baltimore from 1982-94.

Sister Judith also taught for four years in the Archdiocese Washington, from 1960-64, and for nine years in the Diocese of Wilmington, from 1968-77.

From 1994-96, she lived at the AIDS Baby House in Philadelphia, where she helped care for children. Also starting in 1994, Sister Judith taught at Neumann University in Aston until 2002, and, after a brief sabbatical, served as a faculty advisor until 2013. She became a resident of Assisi House in 2014 and served in prayer ministry until her death.
