Sister Clare Carty, O.S.F., dies

A funeral Mass for Franciscan Sister Clare Carty was offered Feb. 20 at Our Lady of Angels Chapel in Aston, Pa. Sister Clare, formerly known as Sister St. Clare, died Feb. 14. She was 78.
A Philadelphia native, Sister Clare entered the Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia in 1955 and professed her first vows in 1957. She earned a bachelor’s degree in in English from Mount St. Mary University in Emmitsburg; a master’s degree in guidance and counseling from what is now Loyola University Maryland in Baltimore; a master’s degree in hospital administration from George Washington University in Washington, D.C.; and an honorary doctoral degree from Bucks County Community College for her work in public service.
In the Archdiocese of Baltimore, Sister Clare taught at St. Stephen School in Bradshaw (1961-1964) and St. Clement Mary Hofbauer School in Rosedale (1971-1977).
Sister Clare also ministered in Pennsylvania, South Carolina and Washington, D.C.
