Sister Annamae Haran, I.H.M., dies

A funeral Mass for Sister M. Annamae Haran, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, was offered April 21 at Our Lady of Peace Residence in Scranton, Pa. Sister Annamae died April 16. She was 97.

Born July 11, 1917, in Carbondale, Pa., Sister Annamae entered the congregation of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary in 1938, made her temporary profession of vows in 1940 and her final profession of vows in 1943.

She began her ministry teaching in Pennsylvania before coming to Baltimore, where she taught at St. Bernardine Catholic School from 1943-1945. From there, her teaching took her to Connecticut, Pennsylvania and New York.

Sister Annamae taught until 1998, and also served in various capacities at the Marian Convent in Scranton, including as a nursing assistant and dietary assistant. From 1998-2007, she served as an instructor at the Educational Enrichment Institute at the IHM Center in Scranton.

From 2007 until her death, Sister Annamae served as prayer minister at Our Lady of Peace Residence.
