Pamela Walters to head Sacred Heart of Mary School

After serving as interim principal of Sacred Heart of Mary School in Graceland Park since February, Pamela Walters said she is excited to begin the new school year as the permanent principal.
“It’s really neat to be able to bring my new ideas to the great traditions here at Sacred Heart of Mary,” said Ms. Walters, who has spent her entire six-year professional career at the school – working as a teacher in the PRIDE program (Pupils Receiving Inclusive Diversified Education) and later as assistant principal.
“The school has a strong presence in the parish,” said the Sacred Heart of Mary parishioner. “It has a solid academic program and we hope to attract more students by word of mouth as our reputation grows.”
There are currently 200 students at Sacred Heart of Mary, the principal said.
A Long Island, New York native, Ms. Walters said she plans to revitalize efforts to reach out to alumni as the school prepares to celebrate its 80th anniversary.
Ms. Walters holds a bachelor’s degree in elementary and special education from the College of Notre Dame of Maryland in Baltimore and a master’s degree in administration and supervision, also from Notre Dame. She participated in Operation Teach, an initiative to attract recent college graduates into the Catholic school system.
