Man’s Walk Across America raises awareness and funds for Good Shepherd Services

By Catholic Review Staff
Good Shepherd Services’ Board Chair, Frank Ryan, is walking across America to raise awareness for teenage mental health and funds for Good Shepherd. Ryan, who began his walk earlier this year, has less than 158 miles left to go in his Walk Across America and plans to finish Aug. 9 in Ocean City, according to Diana Ellis, the nonprofit’s director of development.

Good Shepherd is a residential treatment center for those ages 13 to 21 who suffer from severe emotional and behavioral problems.

According to its website, the roots of Good Shepherd Services date to 1641, when St. John Eudes established the mission in Caen, France. The Sisters of the Good Shepherd have been serving Maryland youths and their families since 1864 when they opened the first house of the Good Shepherd in Baltimore.

In 1970, Good Shepherd Services moved to its current location in Baltimore County.
