Jesuit Father Brian Linnane, president of Loyola University Maryland in Baltimore, announced in a March 19 letter to faculty, staff and administrators that he will take a sabbatical July 1 to Dec. 31.
“As I prepare to mark my 10th anniversary as Loyola’s president, as well as my 60th birthday this summer,” he said, “I am feeling called to take time to reflect, study and prepare for the next chapter in the life of our university.”
Father Linnane noted that Loyola’s board of trustees has named Executive Vice President Susan Donovan acting president during his sabbatical.
“Although I am still forming my own plans for my leave, Father Linnane said, “I hope to spend considerable time at one of the Jesuit theological centers so I can re-immerse myself in my academic area of theological ethics. My time away will not be time off, but rather a time to prepare for this next chapter in my presidency.”
