Local educators honored at NCEA convention
Several local educators received national recognition for their effective ministries when they were presented with awards at the National Catholic Educational Association convention, held in Baltimore April 10-13.
Brother Kevin Strong, F.S.C.
Brother Kevin, president of The Cardinal Gibbons School in Baltimore for three years, received the 2007 Michael J. Guerra Leadership Award for his leadership, collaboration with the local church and support for urban education. Brother Kevin previously served as president of Calvert Hall College High School in Towson for 10 years and at Catholic high schools in Pennsylvania.
Archbishop Curley High School Board
The school board at Archbishop Curley High School in Baltimore received the outstanding board award from the National Association of Boards, Commissions and Councils of Catholic Education. The board was recognized for establishing a vision of growth and expansion at Archbishop Curley.
Father Joseph Muth and Suzannah Keating
Father Muth, pastor of St. Matthew in Baltimore, and Ms. Keating, catechetical leader at St. Matthew and St. Thomas More in Baltimore, received the Sadlier Catholic Identity award for their collaborative work in the catechetical program and their efforts with the Immigration Outreach Center at St. Matthew.
The volunteers of Camp GLOW, (God Loves Our World) received the Sadlier Catholic Identity award for their camp ministry with adults who are devel¬opmentally disabled. Camp GLOW was established by the late Sister Justa Walton, I.H.M.
Hispanic young adult ministry at Holy Trinity, Glen Burnie
The Hispanic young adult ministry at Holy Trinity, Glen Burnie, received the Sadlier Catholic Identiy award for its outreach to young Spanish-speaking Catholics.
Early childhood committee, Archdicocese of Baltimore
The early childhood committee of the Archdiocese of Baltimore received the Sadlier Catholic Identity award for its work on behalf of young children.
Patrick and Patricia Marlatt
The Marlatts, parishioners of St. Louis, Clarksville, received the Sadlier Catholic Identity award for establishing the Colleen and Erin Marlatt Scholarship.
Anita Grauer and Mary Susan Dover
Ms. Grauer and Ms. Dover, first grade math teachers at St. Michael School in Overlea, received the Sister Rose Anita McDonnell, I.H.M. award for their effective teaching techniques.
