Immaculate Conception Celebrates St. Patrick’s Day

On St. Patrick’s Day, students arriving at Immaculate Conception School in Towson will be greeted by the live playing of bag pipe and Irish step dancing. Parents dropping their children off at the pre-k to eight Catholic school will receive a prayer card in honor of Ireland’s “Patron Saint.”

“We thought it was important to make the day special for our students and families at Immaculate Conception by paying respect to St. Patrick, a humble man whose love, devotion, and trust in God should serve as an example to each of us,” principal Madeline Meaney said.

St. Patrick was born in 385. As a Catholic Bishop, he preached the Gospel message for 40 years and is credited with converting all of Ireland to Catholicism. The shamrock, long associated with the holiday, was a visual aid that the future saint used to explain the Holy Trinity, a tenet of the Catholic faith.

Immaculate Conception School was recently designated one of seven STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) schools in the Archdiocese of Baltimore. Immaculate Conception School educates students in grades pre-K through eight and has a current enrollment of 560 students.
