Housing options for seniors

People interested in becoming a resident at Catholic Charities Senior Housing in Abingdon are being asked to add their names to a list for prospective tenants at the new apartment building.
The 76 rent-assisted senior apartment units are expected to be ready to occupy in April and Catholic Charities will send out applications to all people on the list in early 2007.

Applicants must be at least 62 years old and have an individual annual income of less than $25,500 to be eligible for the one-bedroom, 540-square-foot apartments, which will be located on St. Clair Drive, off Singer Road. A combined annual income for two people sharing the apartment must be less than $29,100 to be eligible.

The project is supported by the Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Supportive Housing for the Elderly program and benefits from additional funding from Harford County.

The location is accessible from I-95 and route 40 and is convenient to stores, banks, medical-care facilities, recreation and places of worship.

Each unit is equipped with a personal emergency response system, writing for cable television and telephone, and a tenant-controlled entry system.

The building will also have a multi-purpose room with a kitchen for large group activities, lounges for informal activities, a library/game room, a laundry room and a computer center.
