Grateful for Magliano

With Tony Magliano’s “Memorial Day Reflection” and his most recent words on the anniversaries of Hiroshima and Nagasaki (CR, Aug. 5), I am encouraged by his efforts to bring us the truth and reality of history. It is a bit humbling, but just maybe it will challenge us to be true followers of Jesus Christ, the Prince of Peace.

I am spending my summer in Central America visiting women’s small businesses in three war-torn countries, Nicaragua, El Salvador, and Guatemala. The U.S. had supported military action in all three and they have never recovered, economically or emotionally. They are proof that war is not the answer. We need to look more seriously at our Gospels and church history.
