Freedom only for the chosen?

While Gloria Adams’ pride (CR, Jan. 29) in the election of the first African-American president is certainly justified, I have to wonder if Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. would share the writer’s unbridled enthusiasm that President Obama can “not only change America for the better, but the world as a whole in solving the economic and other crises that we are facing.”

Dr. King’s dream did not include genocide. I think he would be horrified that 1,400 African-American babies are aborted each day in this country.

Ms. Adams said she cried at every answer given by Mr. Obama during the debates. I wanted to cry at one only. After being asked about the Born Alive Act by Sen. McCain, President Obama looked into the camera and told the American people that it was “absurd” to think that he would withhold medical care from an infant. In fact, that’s exactly what he did by voting against the only protection ever extended to those live born babies of botched abortions.

Are we so naive or unconcerned with the issue of who decides life itself that we say this man is the answer to all our problems? Not only does he support abortion on demand, but offers no one of conscience the right to choose any way but his. All Christians must think long and hard about the moral and ethical repercussions of FOCA.

Freedom for all to pursue a better life was touted in President Obama’s inauguration speech. That freedom is only for the chosen, according to our president.
