Former BCL stars to be teamed in Memphis

Former Towson Catholic High School standout Donte Greene was selected by the Memphis Grizzlies with the 28th pick in the first round of the June 26 National Basketball Association draft.

Greene’s new teammates will include another product of the Baltimore Catholic League, as Rudy Gay, a 2004 graduate of Archbishop Spalding High School who will be a third-year pro in Memphis.

After graduating from Towson Catholic in 2007, Greene averaged 17.7 points and 7.2 rebounds a contest in his one season at Syracuse University.

At Towson Catholic, the 6-foot-11 forward was a McDonald’s All-American known for his highlight reel dunks and unstoppable presence inside the paint. He averaged 23.3 points and 12 rebounds for the Owls in his senior year.

He becomes the second former Towson Catholic and Syracuse star in the NBA, joining All-Star Carmelo Anthony of the Denver Nuggets. Anthony will represent the United States at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, China.
