SUMMARY:Movie Night: "Alex & Eve
DESCRIPTION:When a Greek Orthodox man and a Lebanese Muslim woman fall madly in love\, they brace for their very traditional parents’ dismayed reactions. Alex & Eve is a 2015 Australian romantic comedy film directed by Peter Andrikidis and written by Alex Lykos. The film explores multiculturalism and interfaith relationships through a lighthearted\, “star-crossed lovers” narrative set in suburban Sydney. It was adapted from Lykos’s highly successful 2006 stage play of the same name. \nThe story follows Alex\, a handsome but timid Greek Orthodox high school algebra teacher in his mid-thirties. His traditional\, domineering parents are heavily pressuring him to settle down with a “good Greek girl”. However\, everything changes when he meets and falls hopelessly in love with Eve\, a confident Lebanese Muslim lawyer. Because Eve’s parents have already arranged a marriage for her with a Lebanese Muslim man\, the couple must initially hide their blossoming relationship. The film highlights the comedic and emotional clashes that occur when their two fiercely traditional families eventually find out about the pairing. \nThis film is hosted by the St. Ignatius Interfaith Ministry. \n✦ There is no charge for this event Popcorn\, snacks and beverages will be provided.
