DESCRIPTION:As part of Loyola University Maryland’s Bunting Peace and Justice Speaker Series\, Kyle Whyte\, Ph.D.\, will present “Beyond Reserves: Indigenous Peoples and Energy Justice” on Monday\, Oct. 12\, at 6:30 p.m. in McGuire Hall West in the Andrew White Student Center. The talk will examine environmental justice and the ethical challenges Indigenous peoples face in climate change\, conservation\, and relationships with scientific institutions. \nWhyte is a professor at the University of Michigan’s School for Environment and Sustainability and a citizen of the Potawatomi Nation. He conducts research on environmental justice\, moral and political issues faced by Indigenous peoples\, climate change\, and conservation. Previously\, Whyte served on the White House Environmental Justice Advisory Council and the U.S. Department of the Interior’s Advisory Committee on Climate Change and Natural Resource Science.

DESCRIPTION:As part of Loyola University Maryland’s Bunting Peace and Justice Speaker Series\, Nicholas Creary\, Ph.D.\, will present “The Maryland Lynching Truth and Reconciliation Commission: Moments of Accountability and Opportunities for Engagement” on Monday\, Nov. 2\, at 6 p.m. in the 4th Floor Program Room in the Andrew White Student Center. The talk will address the origins\, work\, and recommendations of the Maryland Lynching Truth and Reconciliation Commission and the Jesuits’ obligation for reparations to Maryland’s African American communities. \nCreary co-founded and served as a commissioner on the Maryland Lynching Truth and Reconciliation Commission from 2019 to 2026\, which developed recommendations to confront and repair the legacy of racial terror lynchings in Maryland. He is a history instructor at Coppin State University and has taught at Georgetown University\, Marquette University\, and Ohio University. Creary wrote the books “Domesticating a Religious Import: The Jesuits and the Inculturation of the Catholic Church in Zimbabwe\, 1879-1980” and “African Intellectuals and Decolonization.”
