Men’s retreat focused on fatherhood

August 25, 2017 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm EDT

Society goes as the family goes and the family goes as the father goes.  Today we live in a society with a famine of authentic fatherhood.  For real transformation to happen, fathers need to discover and embrace their vocation.

St. Michael is holding a Men’s Retreat 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM, August 25th and 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM August 26th which is focused on fatherhood.  Many men enter fatherhood without understanding the significance of their vocation or having received instruction on how to live it out.  This retreat is aimed at bringing this to light and helping men decide to embrace it.  We hope that many will also experience healing and the grace to take on charitable authority to lead their families in Christ.

The retreat is open to men 18 years of age or older.  There will be 5 talks oriented around the following areas:  prayer, husbands loving their wives, fathers loving their children and charitable authority.  We will have time for prayer and hope to offer the Sacrament of Reconciliation.  We will have small discussion groups to discuss the talks heard and support the development of fellowship groups that might persist after the retreat.  If enough men from neighboring parishes come they could work within their own discussion groups to continue at their respective parish.

Whether one is single, married or divorced; hopes to be a father one day, has children living at home or is a grandfather; there will be something to touch their lives.  Although the retreat will be Catholic-focused, it is also open to non-Catholics.

Online registration is available at:  https://smpschurch.org/church/LEAD

Our speaker is Devin Schadt, cofounder of The Fathers of St. Joseph which is an apostolate focused on the renewal of authentic fatherhood.  Devin is a husband, father, author and speaker who has been featured on EWTN, Relevant Radio and Catholic Answers Live.  You can find out more information about Devin at the following two links:  https://josephswaybook.com/    or           https://fathersofstjoseph.org/

The cost of the retreat is $35 and lunch will be provided.  We may also have appetizers Friday evening prior to the event and hope to give each registrant a copy of Devin’s book Joseph’s Way:  The Call to Fatherly Greatness.  The book is written as an 80-day guide to help us develop in our vocation.  It will help men progress in what they learned at the retreat.  It could also be used as a tool to form and develop faith sharing groups within the parish if they don’t already exist.
