July 31, 2017 @ 7:30 pm - 8:30 pm EDT

microphone

This Ignatian Day talk explores Ignatius of Loyola’s own experiences of Mary; her presence in the Spiritual Exercises; in the practice and direction of the early Jesuits and the larger culture of the time. It also considers the ways in which Mary might play a role in the life of believers today.

Guest speaker Dr. Claire Mathews McGinnis, a Roman Catholic laywoman, is a Professor in the Theology Department at Loyola University Maryland. A graduate of Swarthmore College, she received a Masters of Divinity from Yale Divinity School and a Ph.D. in Hebrew Bible/Old Testament from the Yale University Dept. of Religious Studies.
Having been on the faculty at Loyola since 1993, she has come to appreciate much about Jesuit Spirituality and Education, and has taught the writings of Ignatius of Loyola in her classes over the years. Dr. McGinnis has published books and articles on the prophet Isaiah as well as on other biblical books, and has a particular interest in theological interpretation. She is a native of Baltimore, where she lives with her husband and two children.
There is no cost for this event.
