Annual memorial Mass for Father Capodanno —50th Anniversary

September 5, 2017 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm EDT

The Memorial Mass for Father Vincent R. Capodanno, MM, will take place at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, 5 September 2017, in the Crypt Church of the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, 400 Michigan Avenue, Northeast, Washington, D.C.

His Excellency, the Most Reverend Timothy P. Broglio, J.C.D., Archbishop for the United States Military Services, will be the main celebrant.  This annual Mass is celebrated in memory of Father Capodanno, killed in Vietnam on 4 September 1967, as he aided embattled Marines.  Father Capodanno posthumously received the Medal of Honor, and in May 2006 the Catholic Church officially proclaimed him a Servant of God, formally initiating his cause for beatification.  The Father Vincent Capodanno Guild is the only official organization set up to promote the cause for canonization of Father Capodanno.  For more information, visit www.CapodannoGuild.org.

All are invited to attend the Memorial Mass on the 50th anniversary of his death; however, due to the significance of this year’s event and to ensure seating at this milestone celebration, please RSVP by emailing mpreece@milarch.org or calling 202-719-3642.  If reserved parking is necessary for disabled attendees, please email or phone to the previous information.

Military members are encouraged to wear uniform of the day, and business attire is appropriate for civilians.
