Ellen V. Dunkes

A funeral Mass for Ellen V. Dunkes, formerly of Baltimore, was offered April 10 at St. Gabriel Catholic Church in Woodlawn. Mrs. Dunkes died April 5 in Lewes Convalescent Center, Lewes, Del. She was 100.

Mrs. Dunkes was the oldest of six children of the late Charles and Mary Thompson. She was married in 1934 to George Dunkes, who died in 1996.

Mrs. Dunkes lived in Baltimore her entire life until moving to Brandywine Assisted Living in Lewes in 2000. A 1928 graduate of Mount St. Agnes High School in Baltimore, Mrs. Dunkes was active in the Woodlawn Garden Club and the Sodality of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church (which later merged with St. Lawrence in Dickeyville to form St. Gabriel) for many years.

She is survived by her sons, George Thompson Dunkes and his wife Dawn, of Bel Air and Charles Michael Dunkes and his wife Joann, of Rehoboth Beach, Del.; three grandchildren, Kerin Magill of Ocean View, Del., Christopher Dunkes of Bel Air and Tom Dunkes of Granville, Ohio; eight great-grandchildren, Brittany, Bryce and Bethany Dunkes of Bel Air, Kelsey and Nathaniel Magill of Ocean View, Del., and Sophia, Emma and Liam Dunkes of Granville, Ohio; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Funeral arrangements were made by the Loring Byers Funeral Home in Baltimore.
