Confection connection: St. Joseph School students create some 275 gingerbread houses

What do 252 students and 270 pounds of frosting have in common?
Students from the kindergarten through the eighth grade at St. Joseph School in Cockeysville participated in a sweet project Dec. 18 when they gathered as a school body to create gingerbread houses.
Art faculty Debbie Swiss has been helping students create the confection masterpieces since 1993, but this was the first year the school participated in the project together, in an effort known as “All-School Gingerbread House” event.
Among the many ingredients used was 270 pounds of frosting.
“Seeing the SJS student body all together making their houses of sweets, especially watching the older students who helped their younger “buddies” with the task, made me so proud of our kids,” Swiss said. “I know the memories they made today will last for many, many years.”
Students created about 275 gingerbread houses, which they will take home to share with their families.
