Cockeysville students win at science fair, oratory contest

Eighth-grader Alex Wilson and seventh-grader Kelly Caubo, each of St. Joseph School in Cockeysville, won first and second place, respectively, March 24 at the Baltimore Science Fair, middle school division. 

 

Alex and Kelly were nominated to compete this fall in the national Broadcom Fair for Math, Applied Science, Technology and Engineering for Rising Stars in Washington, D.C. 

 

Alex also received the U.S. Army Award for his exhibit’s scientific and engineering excellence and the Davis Memorial Award for his creativity and ingenuity in scientific questioning and problem solving.  

 

Kelly also won first place and a half-tuition scholarship to the Institute of Notre Dame at the Baltimore school’s Scholympics March 24. 

 

Sixth-grader Caroline Connor won first place for girls and seventh-grader Patrick Norris won first place for boys at the March 19 Timonium Optimist Club’s oratorical contest. 

 

Kelly and seventh-grader Ian Moore won second place; seventh-grader Cate Schwing won third place.

 

At the Cockeysville Optimist Club’s contest March 21, seventh-grader Brendan Fritz, who won first place in the school competition, won first place for boys; Alex won second place and sixth-grader Mary Norris won second place for girls.
