Christmas concert returns to basilica

The second annual Catholic Charities’ Christmas Festival Concert at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary will be held Dec. 11.

Organizers are hoping the event can top last year’s successful event and become a Christmas celebration staple in Baltimore City.

“Music does resonate in one’s soul, especially in one the holiest seasons of the year,” said Tina York, one of the committee members for the event. “Music helps usher in the reality of our savior’s birth and is the cornerstone of our church.”

Edward Polochick will serve as director, with the choir from Homeland’s Cathedral of Mary Our Queen joining the Concert Artists of Baltimore Singers and Brass Ensemble to provide the holiday cheer music.

Proceeds from the event will go toward building a pavilion on the campus of the Jenkins Senior Living Community, which serves moderate- to low-income seniors in southwest Baltimore. Tickets cost $125 with open seating and a dessert reception
