Catholic high schools celebrate Class of 2010

In this special section, The Catholic Review salutes the 2,594 graduating seniors of 20 Catholic high schools in the Archdiocese of Baltimore.

Archbishop Curley High School, Baltimore

A baccalaureate Mass was celebrated May 26 at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Baltimore and commencement exercises were held May 28 at the Cathedral of Mary Our Queen in Homeland for 135 graduates. Frank Savarese, a member of the Class of 1975 and managing partner/president of Weyrich, Cronin & Sorra, was the commencement speaker. Timothy Pillsbury was named Ideal Curley Man of the Year. Taylor Bechtel received the School Service Award and Aaron Boseman received the School Spirit Award. Graduates were offered more than $4.8 million in college scholarships.

Archbishop Spalding High School, Severn

A baccalaureate Mass and commencement exercises were held May 27 at the Cathedral of Mary Our Queen for 297 students. Dr. Michael Murphy, president of Archbishop Spalding High School, was the commencement speaker. John Vernon was the senior graduation speaker. Graduates were offered more than $24 million in academic and athletic scholarships.

Bishop Walsh School, Cumberland

A baccalaureate Mass and commencement exercises were held May 21 at St. Patrick in Cumberland for 54 graduates. Bishop Mitchell T. Rozanski was the commencement speaker. Kelly Louise Larkin gave the welcome address and Jared Tyler Mathews gave the farewell address. Graduates were offered more than $2 million in academic scholarships.

Calvert Hall College High School, Towson

A baccalaureate Mass and commencement exercises were held June 5 at the Cathedral of Mary Our Queen for 267 graduates. Monsignor J. Bruce Jarboe, rector of the Cathedral of Mary Our Queen, was the commencement speaker. Alexander Hermann was the valedictorian and Charles Corasaniti was the salutatorian. Graduates were offered more than $10.1 million in academic scholarships.

The Cardinal Gibbons School, Baltimore

A baccalaureate Mass and commencement exercises were held May 29 at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary for 65 graduates. Steven R. Antonsen Jr. was the valedictorian and William D. Berkey III was the salutatorian. Graduates were offered more than $3.6 million in academic scholarships.

The Catholic High School of Baltimore

A baccalaureate Mass and commencement exercises were held May 25 at the Cathedral of Mary Our Queen for 68 graduates. Courtney Wittstadt was the valedictorian and Sarah Winters was the salutatorian. Graduates were offered more than $3.2 million in scholarships, grants and awards.

St. Frances Academy, Baltimore

A baccalaureate Mass was celebrated June 5 at the Oblate Sisters of Providence Mother House in Catonsville and commencement exercises were held June 6 at St. Matthew in Baltimore for 59 graduates. Jamil Dorsey was the valedictorian and Deanna Harmon was the salutatorian. Graduates were offered approximately $300,000 in academic scholarships.

Institute of Notre Dame, Baltimore

A baccalaureate Mass was celebrated May 20 at St. Matthew in Baltimore and commencement exercises were held May 22 at the Cathedral of Mary Our Queen for 87 graduates. Dr. Frances T. Appler, a member of the Class of 1967, was the commencement speaker. Emily Freeman was the valedictorian and Allison Moses was the salutatorian. Graduates were offered more than $5.1 million in academic scholarships.

The John Carroll School, Bel Air

A baccalaureate Mass and commencement exercises were held June 6 at The John Carroll School for 238 graduates. Jennifer McIntyre, a member of the Class of 1987 and U.S. Consulate in Pakistan was the commencement speaker. Charlotte Hagerman was the valedictorian and Rachel Kokoska was the salutatorian. Graduates were offered more than $12 million in academic scholarships.

St. John’s Catholic Prep, Frederick

A baccalaureate Mass was celebrated May 27 at St. John the Evangelist in Frederick and commencement exercises were held May 28 at St. Katharine Drexel in Frederick for 54 graduates. Jonathan Shakesprere was the valedictorian and James Plamondon was the salutatorian. Graduates were offered more than $3.9 million in scholarships.

Loyola Blakefield, Towson

A baccalaureate Mass was celebrated June 5 at the Cathedral of Mary Our Queen and commencement exercises were held June 6 at Loyola Blakefield for 196 graduates. The welcoming address was given by John Puglia. The student address was given by Michael Bullock. Graduates were offered more than $10 million in academic scholarships.

St. Maria Goretti High School, Hagerstown

A baccalaureate Mass and commencement exercises were held May 29 at St. Ann in Hagerstown for 49 graduates. Kelly Wright, a distinguished alumnus, was the commencement speaker. Dan Rost was the valedictorian and Eliza Wallace was the salutatorian. Graduates were offered more than $5.8 million in scholarships.

St. Mary’s High School, Annapolis

A baccalaureate Mass was celebrated May 27 at St. Mary’s Church in Annapolis and commencement exercises were held that same day in the Carroll Gardens for 128 graduates. Admiral Michael Mullen, chairman of the Chiefs of Staff, was the commencement speaker. Jillian Coughlin was the valedictorian and Hank Duden was the salutatorian. Graduates were offered more than $10.4 million in academic scholarships and grants.

Maryvale Preparatory School, Brooklandville

A baccalaureate Mass and commencement exercises were held June 3 at Maryvale for 77 graduates. Graduates were offered more than $3.9 million in academic scholarships.

Mercy High School, Baltimore

A baccalaureate Mass was celebrated June 6 Mercy High School and commencement exercises were held June 9 at the Cathedral of Mary Our Queen for 130 graduates. Donna Orem, chief operating officer of the National Association of Independent Schools, was the commencement speaker. Graduates have been offered approximately $4 million in college merit scholarships.

Mount St. Joseph High School, Irvington

A baccalaureate Mass was celebrated May 28 at St. Louis in Clarksville and commencement exercises were held May 30 at the Cathedral of Mary Our Queen for 208 graduates. Graduates were offered more than $12 million in academic scholarships.

Mount de Sales Academy, Catonsville

A baccalaureate Mass was held May 20 and commencement exercises were held May 22 at Mount de Sales Academy for 124 graduates. Stephanie Renee Payton was the valedictorian, Sarah Marie Robbins was the salutatorian, and Catherine Lamb Buck was the Mount de Sales Girl. Graduates were offered more than $8.4 million in scholarships.

Notre Dame Preparatory School, Towson

A baccalaureate Mass was celebrated May 25 at Notre Dame Preparatory School. Commencement exercises for the 147 graduates were held the following day. Zoe Bouchelle, alumna from the Class of 2004 and a program coordinator for Soccer Without Borders, was the commencement speaker. Katherine “Kit” Hunt received honors for general excellence. Graduates were offered more than $14.6 million in academic scholarships.

Our Lady of Mount Carmel High School, Essex

A baccalaureate Mass was held June 2 and commencement exercises were held June 4 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church for 69 graduates. Brandon Citrano was the valedictorian and Benjamin Lukehart was the salutatorian. Graduates were offered more than $1.4 million in academic scholarships.

The Seton Keough High School, Baltimore

A baccalaureate Mass was celebrated May 25 at St. Joseph’s Passionist Monastery in Irvington and commencement exercises were held May 26 at the Cathedral of Mary Our Queen for 142 graduates. Dr. Mary Kay Shartle-Galotto, executive vice president for academic and student services emeritus, Montgomery College, Rockville, was the commencement speaker. Jennifer Tomasic was the valedictorian and Jessica Smith was the salutatorian. Graduates were offered $6.6 million in scholarships.
