Calvert Hall principal awarded Christian Brothers highest honor

Calvert Hall College High School principal Louis E. Heidrick was to be presented the Letter of Affiliation by the Brothers of Christian Schools May 14.

The award is the order’s highest honor and was scheduled to be presented by Brother Dennis Malloy in the name of Brother Alvaro Rodriguez, the superior general of Christian Brothers.

The presentation was to occur during a Mass celebrated by Auxiliary Bishop Denis J. Madden in Calvert Hall’s McManus Theatre, as the Towson school celebrated the feast of Saint John Baptist de La Salle.

A statement from the school said, “the framed Letter of Affiliation, making Heidrick an honorary member of the Brothers’ community, expresses the Brothers’ appreciation for Heidrick’s commitment to Lasallian values and assures him of a remembrance in the Brothers’ daily prayers and of inclusion in the Masses and other prayers that are offered for every Brother after his death.”

Brother Dennis was to present Heidrick with the items given to a Brother when he receives the habit of the congregation: a copy of the New Testament, the Brothers’ Rule, a crucifix and a six-decade rosary.

Heidrick has been a member of Calvert Hall’s faculty and administration for 44 years. His past positions have included chair of the social studies and business departments.

He was assistant principal for student affairs and assistant principal for academic affairs before being named Calvert Hall’s principal in 2001. He became the first non-De La Salle Christian Brother to hold the position.

He has also has coached football and basketball at the school and is a graduate of the Lasallian Leadership Institute and keeps abreast of information from the international, regional and district Lasallian offices, according to a statement from the school.
