Bauer to coach Cavs, Sexton pitches to victory

Archbishop Spalding High School, Severn, announced the appointment of Andrew Bauer as their new head varsity boys’ basketball coach. Bauer, a longtime junior varsity head coach and varsity assistant to Pat Clatchey of Mount St. Joseph High School in Irvington, will bring a wealth of experience, a history of success, and a tradition of winning basketball, among his strengths as a coach. Bauer knows the strength of the competition in the MIAA, and will likely provide solid leadership for the Cavaliers’ basketball program.
Lee Dove, Archbishop Spalding’s athletic director remarked, “Andy will have an impact upon all of our students in the classroom. He will really be able to give meaning to the term ‘student-athlete’ to each of the players in the boys’ basketball program.” Coach Bauer will also be a full-time faculty member in the social studies department, bringing along 15 years of classroom experience.
Tim Sexton, a 2005 graduate of Calvert Hall College High School, Towson, had never pitched in a professional game prior to Aug. 11, but his inexperience never showed as the right-hander, out of Miami-Dade Community College, fired five shutout innings for Michigan’s Great Lakes Loons, competing in the Midwest League, Class A ball.
Sexton’s work, in relief, helped the Loons snap a three-game losing streak with a 3-2 win over Cedar Rapids, striking out six while allowing only two hits.
Sexton was selected as a 25th round draft pick this spring by the Los Angles Dodgers’ organization and was sent to the Single A team in Michigan.
Sexton, a 6-foot-5-inch overpowering right-hander, was a member of Calvert Hall’s 2005 MIAA A Conference championship team, which set two state records for wins. A three-year varsity player for the Cardinals, Sexton served as team captain during his senior year and helped lead his team to their MIAA league championship and a national ranking by USA Today and Baseball America. According to his player information, Sexton was a member of Calvert Hall’s National Honor Society with a 3.85 GPA.
