Archdiocese will inspect all schools and church steeples for earthquake damage

Nolan McCoy, the Director of Facilities and Real Estate for the Archdiocese of Baltimore, has informed Catholic schools that their school buildings will be inspected by structural engineers to assess any possible damage sustained in the Aug. 23 earthquake that shook the Mid-Atlantic region.

“As a result of yesterday’s earthquake,” McCoy wrote in an Aug. 24 email, “the Archdiocese of Baltimore is arranging to have a structural engineer inspect all of our school buildings. This inspection will assess for damage and confirm the structural soundness of our schools. The goal is to have all school buildings inspected by Monday Aug. 29. Once all schools have been inspected, arrangements are being made to have all of our steeples throughout the Archdiocese inspected for structural damage and soundness. The cost of these inspections is being paid for by the Archdiocese.”
