Archdiocese receives abuse allegation against teacher

Official Statement from the Archdiocese

On April 25, representatives of the Archdiocese of Baltimore received an allegation of child sexual abuse against Mr. Patrick McIntyre, a seventh grade teacher at Immaculate Conception School, Towson. The alleged abuse took place in the late 1970s and involved a male middle school student attending Bishop John Neumann School in Baltimore, where Mr. McIntyre taught.

The allegation was immediately reported to the Baltimore County State’s Attorney’s Office and Department of Social Services which indicated to the Archdiocese on April 27 that no charges were expected to be filed due to the age and nature of the allegation. On April 27 County officials granted representatives of the Archdiocese permission to contact Mr. McIntyre regarding the allegation.

After meeting that same day with Mr. McIntyre to discuss the allegation, officials from the Archdiocese informed Mr. McIntyre that he was immediately suspended from his teaching duties at Immaculate Conception School, pursuant to standard Archdiocesan policy.

The person making the allegation lives out of state and was met with personally by a representative of the Archdiocese this past week. The Archdiocese’s investigation into this matter continues.

Mr. McIntyre taught at Bishop John Neumann from 1975-1981 and 1999-2004; St. Anthony of Padua School, 1981-1995; and Immaculate Conception from September 2004-2007.

Anyone with knowledge of any child sexual abuse is urged to report it immediately to civil authorities. If clergy or other church personnel are suspected of committing the abuse, we ask that you also call the Archdiocesan Office of Child and Youth Protection Hotline at 1-866-417-7469.
