Anne Arundel Catholic School Students Mentor Baltimore City Catholic School Students

Twenty-eight Junior Honor Society students from the School of the Incarnation in Gambrills spent the day with Pre-K-Grade 5 students at Archbishop Borders School in Highlandtown on April 28, 2011. As part of a service day arranged by the two schools, the middle school students organized field day exercises, even supplying materials for the fun-filled day.

Archbishop Borders School Principal, Ms. Cathy Marshall, said it was especially meaningful to the students of her school because of the enthusiastic, hands-on involvement of the older children from Incarnation.

“The students at Archbishop Borders are still talking about it. They loved the personal interaction with the older students. This was truly a demonstration of the Catholic faith and a witness to the mission of nurturing others,” said Ms. Marshall.

This is the first year for the partnership between the two schools which was established by former Incarnation principal and current Superintendent of Catholic Schools, Dr. Barbara McGraw Edmondson. The school’s current principal, Emily Mehler, is committed to continuing the partnership and expanding it beyond the physical education program. “This service project was very meaningful for our students. They were so excited to receive the beautiful, handmade thank you cards sent by the Archbishop Border students and look forward to developing the next project!”
