26th Annual Social Ministry Convocation to Honor the 25th Annivesary of Bishops’ Letter on Racism

The Catholic Campaign for Human Development will host its 26th Social Ministry Convocation on Saturday, March 5, 2005 at Seton Keough High School, located at 1201 Caton Avenue in Baltimore, from 8:15 a.m. to 3 p.m. The theme of this year’s event is “Brothers and Sisters to Us: A Prophetic Call to End Racism,” in honor of the 25th anniversary of the U.S. Bishops’ pastoral letter on racism, “Brothers and Sisters to Us.”

Cardinal William H. Keeler will lead the convocation in an opening prayer before Rev. Bryan N. Massingale, S.T.D., an African-American moral theologian from Marquette University and Marie Dennis, Director of the Maryknoll Office of Global Concerns and Vice-President of Pax Christi International, will deliver the morning and afternoon keynote addresses.

Additionally, there will be exciting workshops on how individuals and parishes can become involved in such issues as immigration, economic justice and development, economic segregation, parish social ministry, as well as exhibits displaying the work of parishes and social concerns organizations.

Awards will also be presented to parishioners as well as those people in the broader community, for their work in area of social ministry.

The Catholic Campaign for Human Development is the domestic anti-poverty, social justice program of the U.S. Catholic bishops. Its mission is to address the root causes of poverty in the United States through promotion and support of community-controlled, self-help organizations and through transformative education.
