We’ll be adding new ideas to this page as together we learn how best to prepare for the flu.

Here are some ideas we have. If you have a good idea let us know on the response section below. We’ll run all the ideas past our medical advisors and then post them here.

What can you do to prepare for the flu? It is inevitable that we are entering an unusual flu season. Here are some practical things you can do to prepare yourself. Get a seasonal flu immunization. They are available through doctors’ offices but also drugstores, grocery stores and at county health department clinics. A regular seasonal flu immunization is as important as the H1N1 immunization when it is available. Medical experts recommend that everyone get the seasonal flu immunization now.

What can you do to prepare for the flu? Each day we hear of more instances of flu. Here are some practical things to do now. Get some hand sanitizer. You can buy Purell or any of the many generic brands. The keys is that alcohol be at least 60%. Let the sanitizer dry on your hands. Wiping it off negates the benefit. Wash your hands thoroughly. This means for at least the time it takes you to sing ‘Happy Birthday’ twice. Try to remember to sanitize your hands as often. This virus spreads easily and lives on hard surfaces and paper for hours. Go to flu.gov's "What to do about the flu" for more information.
