Statement of Cardinal Edwin O’Brien on the Appointment of Bishop-Elect Adam Parker

Today’s appointment of two new auxiliary bishops for the Archdiocese of Baltimore is very, very good news.  I’ve known Bishop-Elect Brennan for years of vocational work together – he is a true gift to the Archdiocese of Baltimore.

From the start, Monsignor Parker introduced me to the Archdiocese of Baltimore: its traditions, its clergy, and its parishes. He has genuine instinct for the Archdiocese, its history, and its needs.  I owe him a great deal as a result of those years we served together in Baltimore, and in collaborating with me here in Rome for the several years he served so ably.

Our new bishop is bright and very insightful, with great experience as a pastor and administrator. He reads situations well and is honest and open both with superiors and the faithful he serves.

I congratulate Archbishop Lori and thank him for advancing the appointment of our two new bishops.  His pastoral resolve and the Holy See’s confidence in him have done much to bring about this happy day.
