Prayer Service - Media Advisory
Archbishop Edwin F. O'Brien will lead a prayer service to commemorate the 25th anniversary of My Sister’s Place, a day shelter for homeless and displaced women and their children, on Wednesday, October 24 at 1 p.m. at the Baltimore Basilica.
Women who frequent the Catholic Charities program will participate in the prayer service by sharing their life stories. Enlarged portraits of these and other women served by the program will be displayed along the perimeter of the sanctuary.
My Sister’s Place, located at 123 W. Mulberry Street, provides a respite for women and their children seven days a week from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Meals, laundry and showering facilities, a playroom for children, clothing, bus tokens, case management and referral are provided by the program. In 2006, 1,501 women and their children received assistance.
In 2008, the program will expand its services and reopen at the former location of Our Daily Bread, 411 Cathedral Street, under a new name: My Sister’s Place Women’s Center.
