Farewell Mass Sunday for Auxiliary Bishop W. Francis Malooly
A Mass of Thanksgiving for the ministry of Bishop W. Francis Malooly, Bishop-Elect of Wilmington, will take place at the Cathedral of Mary Our Queen on Sunday, August 17 at 3 p.m.
Bishop Malooly was named the ninth Bishop of Wilmington by Pope Benedict XVI on July 7. His installation will take place September 8.
Born January 18, 1944 to the late William Francis Malooly and Rosemary (nee Murphy) Malooly of Parkville, he would attend St. Ursula Catholic School before entering St. Charles College (minor seminary) at age 13. He went on to graduate from St. Mary’s Seminary in Baltimore and was ordained to the priesthood on May 9, 1970.
His assignments include: Associate Pastor, St. Joseph, Cockeysville (1970-76), Associate Pastor, St. Anthony of Padua, Baltimore (1976-81), Associate Administrator/Administrator, Msgr. O’Dwyer Retreat House, Sparks (1981-84), Director of Clergy Personnel (1984-88), Chancellor & Vicar General & Moderator of Curia (January 1, 1989), Ordained Auxiliary Bishop (March 1, 2001).
