Review the Report.
After the FOCCUS report has been returned to you, and before you share it with the couple, examine it. Refer to the FOCCUS MANUAL for directions on interpreting the reports.
Make notes on areas for discussion, so that you may help them begin to work on these issues. Also note areas of close agreement, so that you may encourage the couple's strengths.
See FOCCUS Interpretation Table provided.
Look for relationship patterns.
Before each session, review the FOCCUS Manual on subjects due to be explored at that session. Study the issue categories. Refer to the FOCCUS manual facilitator aids and discussion starter questions.
Review the report with the couple during the following sessions. Destroy it or forward it to their clergyman after the last meeting.
Explain again that FOCCUS is not a test, but a discussion starter for them. The results are not used to determine their ability to marry.
The report printout is not designed to be kept by the couple. Its validity is limited only to the preparation process. It is not a predictor of marital success and should not be kept on file.
Use the inventory booklets with the couple to refer to particular questions to be discussed. Ask them to say more to their partner about why they answered as they did.
