Catholic Parishes Serve the Poor at Christmas

Throughout Christmas week, Catholic parishes in the Archdiocese of Baltimore will be providing food, clothing, gifts and other necessities to people in need in the surrounding community. Among the 153 parishes in the Archdiocese, the following Baltimore City parishes are engaged in special Christmas outreach ministries:

St. Benedict, 2612 Wilkens Ave. (Southwest Baltimore)
St. Benedict’s Parish will hold its annual food and gift distribution on Sunday, December 22 at 2 p.m. The parish will provide clothing, food, and gifts to approximately 1000 needy individuals (220 families) in the parish neighborhood. To read an article about last year’s event visit: catholicreview.org.

St. Wenceslaus, 2111 Ashland Ave. (East Baltimore)
For the 5th straight year, St. Wenceslaus will host a community Christmas celebration on December 24, Christmas Eve, from 12-5 p.m. There will be food served (Last year 1,800 dinners were served at this event), clothing distributed, and toys given to children by Santa. Barbers will be present to give haircuts and a photographer to take family photographs. There will be entertainment for children and a new bike is raffled every hour. This event is a cooperative effort of St. Wenceslaus Church, Circle of Positive Black Men, The Dale Talley Branch Foundation, Mike McConner Construction, and Safe Streets East.
